President’s Message, September 2010

Welcome back. I hope the short and extremely hot summer treated you well. Now it’s time to get down to get down to the second half business of 2010.

First, let me recap the first half by congratulating Joe Adamo for being chosen and honored at our last meeting as the Shields Member of the Year, an honor richly deserved. I was also privileged to present the Shields Presidential Award to current membership chairman, Lloyd Thomason. During his long tenure as a board member he has served the organization extremely well in varied positions.

I would also like to offer my personal, as well as the Shields condolences to the families of departed members, former Nassau District Attorney Denis Dillon and former Shields Vice President Bob Lucente.

Special thanks go to our recent scholarship winners for acknowledging their awards. Mike Villa did a great job in chairing the scholarship committee and emceeing the presentations. We appreciate his dedication and efforts.

Our thanks also go to Rich Rottkamp and his committee, who ran our biggest and best boat ride yet. Great job guys!

Congratulations to Tony Navarro, President of the Orange County Shields as they celebrate their 40th anniversary this October.

Don’t forget the 43 Pct. Reunion scheduled for Thursday October 28, contact Mike Russell at 108 Lawrence St. New Hyde Park NY 11040 for details.

Hope we see you at the September 30th meeting. Remember to keep our troops, as well as our Brothers and Sisters in “Blue” in your prayers.
