President’s Message, July 2007

This will be the last paper before the summer break so I would like to acknowledge a few people and events. First I want to THANK the dedicated members and friends who were at L.I. National Cemetery at 0630 hrs placing flags on the graves of our deceased veterans, I would especially like to acknowledge Shields Chaplain Rev. James G. Anderson, who led us in prayer and worked with everyone placing flags.

To those who volunteered at the Games for the Physically Challenged what can I say? Your efforts were acknowledged at closing ceremonies, when I had the humble pleasure of accepting an award recognizing your many years of dedication and support to the Games. A special ‘THANK YOU’ to Linda Freeman and her FBI group who make our Friday’s at the Games so much easier.

Please don’t forget the annual moonlight cruise Rich Rottkamp is running on Friday August 10th. It’s a winner for all who attend, and yes, we will be having live music once again.

Our annual golf outing is set for Sunday/Monday September 23 & 24 at the newly reconstructed Villa Roma. A good time is always had by all.

Lloyd Thomason asked that I let you know that he will be conducting the ‘Windfall’ drawing at the June 28 meeting. Remember you have to be in it to win it. Our next meeting will also be scholarship presentation night, and Todd Cardillo will be here to present his father’s scholarship. Randy Jurgensen will also be present to sign copies of his book, Circle of Six, and assist with the presentation of the scholarship.

I have to thank Rudy Andre (Ret. NYPD) for his poignant presentation of the Harlem Mosque incident, which brought tears to the eyes of many attending.

Remember to keep in your prayers the men and women defending our country, and those in law enforcement. Have a safe summer.
