President’s Message, October 2006

I would like to start this message by congratulating my good friend Charles (Charlie) Caputo on his recent election, as President of The New York State Fraternal Order of Police, I look forward to working closely with Charlie for the benefit of our members. I would like to thank both Jim Bartkowski and Sal Lauria (both who chose not to run) for their time and efforts as Officers of the Shields, they will be recognized and thanked at a future meeting. Thank You Gentlemen ! I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome some new additions to our Board, and thank the membership for the confidence that you have expressed in us.

The recent golf outing was once again a huge success. Rich Rottkamp and his committee are to be commended for another job “Well Done”. Thanks to former Shields V/P Ed Henson, who traveled from Florida to attend, plans are already under way for the 2007 outing.

Don’t forget, Randy Jurgensen, author of Circle of Six will be at our November meeting to personally sign your copy of his book purchased at the meeting for the special price of $20 per copy. This meeting will also be the kick off of our 2006 TOY COLLECTION, for less fortunate children, so please remember to bring an unwrapped toy.

Remember to vote on election day, your vote does count. November also brings us Veteran’s Day, remember to thank a veteran that you know for the freedom he has fought to preserve for us. Speaking of veteran’s I am proud to announce that Joe Wolff has informed me that Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Spann Watson, a 23 year Air Force veteran, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen during WW2 has accepted his invitation to speak to us, Colonel Watson recently celebrated his 90th birthday in August. Colonel Watson will soon be receiving a well earned Presidential gold Medal.

Remember in your thoughts the defenders of our freedom, both home and abroad. Hope to see you November 9th.

Fraternally,
Richie
